about
This song was written in 2012 on a morning I woke up extremely hungover. It was a habit of mine to write this way a lot, as it was a good way to tap into emotional and raw topics. I didn't feel like I could hold back when I was ill and kind of exhausted. The basic subject matter had to do with being single and finding that I couldn't get out of my own way emotionally. The whole "white ghost" thing felt to me like someones looming disappointment in you rather than a specific person. I didn't know at the time I had a lot of depressive tendencies. I really just thought I was a heavy hearted person.
lyrics
I woke up, Tasted blood
heard my name from a cloud out my window
crossed my heart, cleared my mind
thought about when I'm overboard
You were only there a little while
you were only sticking 'round
to watch me drown
and I shoulda' known best
but gave you a chance
'cuz you needed it
There's a fortress inside my head
and Im climbin' out of it
there's a white ghost in my bed
she's starin' starin'
I won't let myself get down
too much deeper i'll crush myself
if i lose all lose all my love i'll be cast out and cast down
No i don't want anyone to take my cup
No I dont have anything to offer up.
There's a fortress inside my head
and Im climbin' out of it
there's a white ghost in my bed
she's starin' starin'
